Location

UQ Airport Storage is located about 9 miles south of Westcliffe, Colorado off of State Road 69 on County Road 310 at the Silver West Business Park adjacent to Silver West Airport (Custer County's airport) and Silver West Estates (Custer County's 'fly-in' community). After turning onto County Road 310, proceed east less than one mile and you will see us on the right.

UQ Airport Storage is right next to the Silver West Airport. Silver West Airport has FAA Identifier "CO8", and is located at 38-00-40.006 North, and 105-22-22.005 West. Elevation is 8,290'. The airport is open to the public and is unattended. Airport communications at CTAF 122.9. 100LL Fuel is available with self-service credit card purchase. The runway is 7,000' x 55', and is in excellent condition having been resurfaced in July 2004. Occassionally there are deer and elk on the runway. Be careful!

You may be wondering what in the world does 'UQ' signify? 'UQ' is derived from the word "UnQuestionable". And this word is present in a favorite passage written by American essayist and poet, Henry David Thoreau. "I know of no more encouraging fact, than the UnQuestionable ability of man to advance his life through conscious endeavor." Throreau died in 1862 while the Civil War raged, and America had only 34 states. Westcliffe's first pioneers arrived soon after. Colorado was to become our 38th state in 1876! It is a mystery how such a consummate easterner as Thoreau who "went to the woods to live deliberately" could seemingly sum up the code of the West with these words.

UQ and the word UnQuestionable are used to mean a positive affirmation, a sign of the indomitable American spirit. Lewis and Clark had the UQ spirit 200 years ago when they led the Corps of Discovery with their 'courage undaunted', and unrelenting focus on their conscious endeavor. In 1994, 60,000 cubic yards of earth were moved in preparation for paving a then 5,000 ft. runway. The spirit of UQ is alive and well today at Silver West!
